Annual Meeting

The first Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors was held on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Fire Station No. 3, 267 Adams Street..

Three directors were reelected for three-year terms.

The original slate of officers was also reelected for one-year terms.

History doesn't have to be boring

Old-Time Fairhaven is a historical preservation group in Fairhaven, MA, inspired by the series of books published by Charles A. Harris between 1947 and 1954.

Harris wrote about all sorts of historical things all over town—schools, old stores, fire trucks, churches, Fort Phoenix, trolley cars, famous and not so famous people, old burial grounds, ice skating, his Sunday school teacher—some of them from long ago and some of them from his own younger days. He told stories about things people were interested in without being stuffy or boring.

We want to be like that.

Our mission is to educate and interest the public in the history of Fairhaven and its surroundings in fun and engaging ways.

To accomplish this, we plan to:

Collect, preserve and interpret artifacts, ephemera, photographs, art and oral, written or recorded histories related to the town.

Promote our town's past with public displays, lectures, workshops, classes and printed, recorded or electronic media.

Maintain a local history museum and library. (Someday, we hope!)

We invite you to come along and have fun with Old-Time Fairhaven.

March 23, 2014, Program a Success

Historical Program: 'Bridges Across the Acushnet'
Sunday, March 23, 2014, 2:00 p.m. Unitarian Memorial Church auditorium 102 Green Street, Fairhaven, MA

For the first public program of Old-Time Fairhaven, Inc., Chris Richard gave an illustrated presentation on the history of all of the different spans that have been built across the Acushnet River. A PowerPoint slide show used old and new photographs and antique postcards to show the evolution of five different bridges. There was a social hour after the program so the public could learn more about Fairhaven's newest historical organization and how to join and become involved.

The afternoon resulted in several new memberships and a bit more than $100 in donations, a part of which was given to the Unitarian Church for allowing us the use of the auditorium.
